Prof. Elaine Shemilt MA (RCA) FRSA FRSG

elainePenguinElaine is the Artistic Director of the Centre for Remote Environments (CRE) at the University of Dundee and is also Vice Chair of the South Georgia Heritage Trust (SGHT). Shemilt has worked on a series of images and a multi media installations inspired by a commission she had undertaken previously in the Falkland Islands for the Ministry of Defense. In 2002 the subsequent work, Traces of Conflict was shown at Imperial war Museum in London. In parallel with her images about war Elaine’s most recent work is a not-for-profit, multi-million pound research project to protect the natural and historical heritage of the Island of South Georgia, sponsored by private and Government funding, and led by SGHT. Related artistic works were exhibited in Melbourne Australia in September/ October 2011 and at the IMPACT8 Conference and Print Festival 2013.

She is Professor of Fine Art Printmaking at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, the University of Dundee.

Professor Tony Martin

Professor Tony Martin, head of animal conservation at Dundee University.

tonymartinProfessor Martin is one of the world’s foremost experts in the field of marine mammals. He is currently overseeing a multi-million pound project aiming to aid the recovery of native wildlife by removing invasive species introduced by humans during two centuries of occupation. The initial target will be rodents, whose removal should result in South Georgia once again hosting millions of breeding seabirds.

Paul Shafi BEng (Hons)

paulPaul Shafi is the Technical Director CRE and also a Technology Researcher at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design.

In the commercial sector, Paul is the Managing Director of Universis Technology Ltd which provides IT services and app development – including the BAFTA nominated Dinosaur Chess.
